    For some reason, I keep wanting to call these things either Narco-biners or Orca-biners... can't get Nacra-biners to come out first!

    My gratitude to nacra533 for introducing them to the forum, but I don't like jargon, and "soft shackles" works already.

    Is that essentially a spliced loop, an overhand, and a backsplice?

    I think im gonna replace my snake skins with stretchy nacras, the skins smell bad after a fair amount if use anyway.

    Speaking to the nacra furling idea, I wonder if it would be lighter than having skins, have 8-9 tiny nacras that furl your tarp. How much does one of your nacras for furling weigh opie?
    It's not a spliced loop. I create the lock like on a normal shackle, then leave enough room in the line to be able to open it up and bury the rest.

    For the stopper, I backsplice enough to be able to tie an overhand knot in the backsplice to make the knot fatter.
