I did it! My first DIY tarp!

    My first DIY tarp finished!
A BIG thanks to all who helped me with my thread issue. This morning I went to Joannes and got thinner poly thread and a set of new needles. Set it up in the machine and had to adjust the tension a bit and it worked perfect.

I spent all day today working on it. even skipped lunch and dinner. Got to Autozone just in time before they closed and got the silicone and sealed the bottom. And wouldn't you know an hour later what do I see in the sky? Rain clouds
The silicone had already skinned over so I hung it up in the basement.

Looks like you have a nice tarp there. Must feel good to have your own DIY. Congrates.

    FFB...Call it????hmmmm????

Anyways ...I like the job you did the finished product is spiffy.
The Tie out area looks VERY well done in particular.

Did you have any thoughts for getting the type of tie out piece you have?
    Weight breaking point? temperature?

I only PRAY my first one looks half as good as yours

What fabric did you use for the corners? (The black material)

I got the plastic tie outs from REI. I have no idea the weight limit or temp.

I gave my wife a hard time because she didn't know thread was to thick either, and she's supposed to be the seamstress.

    the tarp is 7.5'X10'
    1.9oz 70D Multicam Coated Nylon

The most challenging was learning about thread thickness
The middle seam was hard. the fabric came in 5 yards by 60" so I had to cut it in half and sew a french seam right in the middle. And unfortunately the seam runs width wise and not length wise. So I'm always gonna be worried about the ridge line being too tight and putting stress on the seam.
I basically looked at a lot of pics on tarps and copied the design. The tie out points for the ridge line are purposely placed on a diagonal. This gives me a little more coverage where I need it and less where I don't. plus it brakes up the rectangle shape.

Cool, Thanks. I just finished my own DIY hammock and stuff sack, so I'm all for doing my own fly now.
