Claytor hammocks

I think a lot of people make their speer hammocks 48" wide as well.
Like you noticed there isn't a difference except the ends.
I considered going 60" wide but decided against it.
Weight would be one reason, the other being just a lot of extra fabric dangling around. When the hammock is that long there is plenty of room to get a nice diagonal with the narrower width. However, I would be curious what a 60"X10.5' felt like.
Hmmm.....all that $1 taffeta....

Like I said on the Bridge thread, laying in this larger Claytor style brought up some strange ideas.
I would be interested in your analysis. There is a diagonal length there that is pretty critical to being comfortable (for me). I have the ridgeline at 109"
Where the brain got churning was that all the fabric needed is on that diagonal. BUT then I realized all that 'wasted' fabric toward the ends is actually supplying my suspension
BUT I think there is something there to consider, hence my pondering about turning the bridge sideways....

OK, if you can't get very flat in this one, could a do it yourself copy be made with a more asym lay? Also what brands offer a good flat laying experience with an over the top entrance? The reason I'm asking these questions are, my wife does not like the bottom entrance of the Hennesy but she is wanting to be able to lay pretty flat if she gets in a hammock.Thanks tnhillbilly

last SEHHA camp out at hot springs youngblood had one that was about 60" wide by 11' long.
it was wonderful... & w/ no air mat!

headchange described how to make a HH style hammock but instead of the bottom entry, he had a zip off top.
he actually had two tops... a net top & a 1.1oz nylon top.
i had the pleasure of laying in it at hot springs! it was GREAT !!!
