Welcome. I'm pretty new to hangin' also so probably not much help but the folks here are a wealth of information and they are all willing to share. I'm in Atlanta. Suggestion: Look up the Atlanta Outdoor Club (AOC) and join the group. Once you join you can sign up for all sorts of events from hiking, to backpacking, camping, travel to other places, etc. It's not a exclusive hammock group but who cares. It's all about getting outside and livin' life! Be aware that membership and the events are exclusive to 21 years and up so that means no children are allowed on the trips.
Hey GGT. I'm new to the hang and HF. Live just south of the Perimeter. Have lots of gear but have yet to get hammock together. Plan to Make a DIY HH Clone with help and advice from the Forum People that live in the woods.

Welcome to the forums. Rome, GA here.
Wow you are a friendly bunch on here
Thanks for all the good information, and the nice comments.
So i looked at Shugs videos, briefly.....they are pretty action packed huh ill need to sit down and go through them a few more times i think. then save up for all the 'accessories' (dutch clips, lightweight rope etc)
Ill be up for a hang as long as its a weekend sometime, and i have enough notice(i often work weekends). i too like to have someone physically help me out with new knots etc.
Im looking into buying a tarp not sure how much ill need one in GA?? (im thinking of big blue one from walmart at the moment-i spent too much on my hammock and slap straps )
I wondering what sort of rope to use with it-3mm utility rope??? I was wondering if 2mm rope would be sufficient?? i was also wondering how long a length i would need to buy. i say 50 ft in rei for fairly cheap and was thinking of getting that and hacking it up to make a rope for the tarp and tie downs for the edges.
I was also thinking of making some home made bug netting just because it may be cheaper?? any ideas on where to buy some netting. i have access to a sewing machine. im not too concerned with netting as i dont seem to have sweet meat and the mosquitos tend to stay away from me (im nore concerned about waking up to spiders or other larger bugs crawling over me)
lots of wonderings, lots of questions, lots of hammock envy i know....i guess it just comes with getting new toys
later dudes/dudettes
