    hennessey hammock spectra cord

i have an older 1.6 non asym ultra light bacpacker it had the earlier white spectra cord, being that i have used this hammock for over 4 years now
i sent it back to have the new spectra cord put on it,i am afraid to use it now.the new spectra cord is black and very skinny and it looks like it has plastic core,i wish i had the older white cord on it,it never failed me
but i figured i would have it replaced any way neo

Your new one is most likely spectra core with a poly sheath, should be fine. Sounds like the one on my BPULA.

If that happened to me just once I would be calling Hennessey and giving them hell.

Both my Hyperlight and UL Backpacker have 1450lb test ultra light spectra support ropes that I'd trust hanging over Niagara Falls.

Science, neo. Those dern newfangled materials, like waterproof fabric that only weighs 1.3oz per square yard, climbing rope that can stop a person's fall w/o breaking, and cheeze whiz.

I have some pretty small Spectra that has a breaking strength of like 3000 lbs. B/c of liability concerns (i.e. getting sued for willful negligence), I'm sure Tom H is using cord rated for the application. But if you're still not sure, send it back and have him put thicker stuff on there.

How old is your wife's hammock? Did it break at the cord? Was the cord frayed or anything? Did you tie knots in the cord? Why do you think it broke?

I just got a spool of samson 7/64 spectra last week. The stuff is about the diameter of a boot lace. put it on one of my speer hammocks, sat in it, and bounced for all I was worth. It never showed any signs of giving! Its rated at 1300 or 1400 lbs. Like Jeff said, I'm sure the stuff tom sent you is overrated. Put the hammock close to the ground and spend the night in it. I'm sure you'll be fine
