    Whoopie String for stuff sac

Hope this hasn't been covered already, I couldn't find any history on it...
I just replaced the draw string in a stuff sack with a whoopie sling/string type thing. I just fed the string through the sack then had about a one inch bury into itself and back out again. I stuffed the bag full o' stuff and it seemed happy to stay shut, then it seemed to open again upon request. It replaces a cord lock. I don't have a problem with cord locks per se I just wondered it it would work. Plus the end with the fixed loop gives you someplace to easily hook a biner too if you so desired, if you had to hang it for some reason...food sack maybe?

Now, that is an interesting use for a whoopie sling. Do you happen to have any pictures of your stuff sack with said whoopie sling draw string?

    Cheers

Cool idea. I kind of wonder if it will creep open since there is really no tension on the bury, but, Hey! if it works- it works.

No pix as yet, maybe this weekend.
I was wondering about creep too, but haven't played with it enough to know if it will. Thought a little piece of surgical tubing on the bury would fix it if it does creep, but that may lock it down too tight, plus the whole thing gets just that much more complicated. I don't want to "force" it to work. More testing to come.

    Good luck,

    Great minds must think alike

I've just pulled the cord from my ursack and replaced with a whoopie. I've tried it out in my back yard and it seems to be working out well. The weight of the bag w/food seems to be keeping enough tension on the rope to keep the bag shut. I'll test it some more before taking it on a backpacking trip.

Here's a couple of pix of it in action. I'm not convinced I love it, but it does seem to work. I stuffed this little sack full and left over night and it didn't seem to creep.

I've tried something simular with a "Canadian slip knot". The thing I don't like is the excess line dangling around or inside the bag or .....

I've also tried a diamond knot over the line that runs through the sac. It works fine but is a little slippery when under a bit of pressure.
I do not wish to be disturbed - but I can't help it!
