    Mosquitos & dl WB

Real happy with the 1.1 single. But for real warm (tropical conditions) & mosquito infested areas will the 1.0 dl eliminate the ability of most mossies from bitting your bottom side? Will the dl also protect the sides of your shoulders/arms/legs? Would the dl significantly reduce bottomside ventilation/cooling? A fresh application of Sawyer works on the dl 1.1, but ends up adding up in $$s. A thin pad makes sleeping a bit soggy and uncomfortable.

Interesting, have you been bitten through the 1.1 single? I can't remember if i've been bit through my 1.7 single or not.

I could see how that's a concern in heavy "mossie" areas...

sorry - just adding another question on the subject.

1st hammock was a HH ULBP. The blood sucker bit through it. Prep the BB with Sawyer. Problem is the need for reapplication, the associated $$s and would prefer to reduce my use of chemicals. TripList includes a few humid, tropical warm, buggy destinations. No uq, pad needed. Leaves the bottomside exposed to the butt bitters.

I've slept pad-free in my DL 1.1 blackbird in Georgia and Alabama summers, and haven't had a mosquito bite through. I did have one carry away my backpack and my dog though

There are natural mosquito repellents as well... Re-application more often may be neccessary, and you may need to test to see if you have an adverse reactions to the specific oils...

    •Citronella Oil
    •Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
    •Cinnamon Oil
    •Castor Oil
    •Rosemary Oil
    •Lemongrass Oil
    •Cedar Oil
    •Peppermint Oil
    •Clove Oil
    •Geranium Oil
•Possibly Oils from Verbena, Pennyroyal, Lavender, Pine, Cajeput, Basil, Thyme, Allspice, Soybean, and Garlic

Ive heard Lemongrass works very well and if you know what to look for, you can pick it and re-apply as needed.

    Mixed results with natural

Have had mixed results using natural based bug juice applied to the skin. Tried a new product this last April/May. BadgerBalm Bug Repellent. Stick form containing many of the above listed items. Worked, but only for couple hours. Disappointing for me. Great for the mosquitoes. I did once have a tube of lotion made of similar based natural bug juice. The stuff worked for ~6 hours. Was not greasy.

I'm bit leery of applying any of the "natural" repellents to the hammock. Most seem to be bit oily.

For warm tropical, buggy conditions the dl sounds like the way to go. Another reason for a new hammock purchase?????

??? Have you found you need to reapply more than once per year (if even that much)? I understand that Permethrin lasts up to 6 washings. I applied to my WBBB 2 years ago, and haven't had an issue (nor have I washed it even once - but that's perhaps another issue).

Have not reapplied this season. This weekend the mossies were out. Only at around sunset were they a nuisance. Before deploying the uq I hung out in the WB. No bites. Ticks were an issue. Should have hit the lower extremities with some bug juice. The last spray can (not a Sawyer product) I thought noted reapplication may be needed every ? weeks. So I apply couple times annually. Once in the spring and once late summer. Maybe a ploy to sell more product?
