    Question Best webbing/straps?

Hey all. I have read a ton on different kinds of webbing/straps and I have found a lot of different opinions. So I wanted to ask you guys, you know, the people who actually USE them!

Nylon seems to be the most common, but I have read that it stretches, especially when wet. It is, however, very abrasion resistant. Very easy to come by at local retailers.

Polypropylene doesn't absorb water, and it doesn't really stretch. But, it is said to not be very abrasion resistant, therefor making it less-effective for tree huggers. I have found it locally, but most of the stores do not have weight ratings on it.

Polyester on the other hand, supposedly has very low water absorbtion, is pretty resistant to uv damage, and is supposed to be very abrasion resistant, making it a great choice... from what I have read. But, it is definitely less common and therefor a little hard to come by at local stores.

So, what are your experiences? What are you using? Nylon? Polyester? Is Polyester really that much better, or is just the opinions of the retailers? I would really love your input. Thanks everyone!

If you go to this page at Strap Works you can have your choice. they are very easy to work with. Personally i use 1 inch Polyester.

I use poly 1" straps from Paul at AHE, and from Opie! I have a pair of 1" seatbelt straps from Strapworks and while they are great straps the weight of them is almost double of the one's that I got from AHE! Either way they all work, but, the poly one's are the preferred choice (at least for me!)!

Awesome. Thanks you guys. I was definitely leaning towards the polyester but now that I have some good feedback from people who actually use them, my decision is made. Thanks for your replies!

I normally use an 18mm tubular poly webbing, it's rated at 1000kg but I like to be safe

I've just bought some 1" strapworks and some cinch buckles though so I'll see how I get on with those.

(Sorry for the mm's and kg's)

I was going to order some material from AHE then I found some 1,500lbs camo ratchet tie downs locally at a good price. I needed a replacement ratchet for another set of red straps anyway. Don't know what material they are and if they will stretch but don't think it matters much on a tree hugger. A 11'4" piece with a 2" loop is at 2 5/8oz or 73g. I'm going to cut it into 4' plus and 6' plus lengths.
