    Weight is not an issue

But strength, warmth and budget are. There is a distinct possibility that I may be living off the land in the next few months. I am probably going to be buying a good sized piece of property this summer in Northern Az. and moving onto it to live semi primitively while I build my Earthship. I am putting together plans for a base camp. What would you do for a hammock.

As this topic gains momentum I will share more of my plans. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.
It's just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love.

Interesting concept, but how far will you be away from civilization? Will you have a car to travel?

How will you afford repairs on such specialized equipment?

    Internet?

    like the bill hicks quote

How will you get to work from there? Or will you work? If not working, how will you survive?

Probably in the Ash fork, Seligman, Williams area. I am looking at 40-80 acres between $500-$1000 an acre. I am willing to go as small as 20 acres if the land is just amazing. I will have a vehicle, probably 2. One for work and hauling loads, the other to get around and save gas.

As far as survival goes with limited money. The Earthship concept is for complete sustainability. I will grow the majority of my own food. Goats, chickens and hunting my property for protein. I have been doing a lot of research and practicing primitive survival techniques and I am pretty confidant in my ability to survive.

Awesome under taking, and good luck on the earthship.

As far as the set up: I'd go with the Guide Gear 12X12 tarp and a WB Traveller Dbl Layer with bug net.

Wow, sounds exciting! I just bought a home in north-east Flagstaff (Doney Park) and am still moving in. My wife and I are excited to get a wind turbine up, rain water harvesting, etc. --- it feels good to be self sustaining.

I've secretly day dreamed about doing exactly what you're proposing to do. It's a little harder with a family and kids.

I am envious of your efforts. Good luck, and thank-you for trying.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

Is your family encouraging? Sounds awesome man. Will you be able to grow all the food you need for a complete diet? I assume your plan must include spending basically no money, or you could work oddjobs on the side. Great effort. Just a thought, but, do you think theres going to be an apocalypse anytime soon? Are you getting ready for something?
