Well being that I live in Greenwood, How could I miss it. It seems like we are all pretty busy between now and July but I am definitely up for doing this.

I think it may be better to wait until after the summer, its pretty hot out there and the last thing I want to think about in July or August is a campfire. Any opposition to holding this in cooler months? Granted the desire to hang can get the best of us but there's no reason to be miserable, right?

I agree.
I camped at Dreher Island on Lake Murray last June. There was no breeze and it was very hot and humid at the campsite in the evenings. Laying in the hammock, I had sweat running into my ears. I had another reservation for the same site in July. I cancelled it before I left.

Cooler weather sounds fine with me. I am game for anytime in the Fall. It will give me enough time to put together even more gear.

Do you know of a closer Public access point to Goat Island? I would like to paddle my kayak for this trip. I agree that July and August are hot months here in the south, but you could go for a dip in the lake to keep cool
If this Group Hang happens and I am off from work at that time, you can count me in! (in my kayak)

It looks like the closest public boat access is almost straight across the lake at Moon's Landing (4105 Watts Bridge Road, Cross Hill, SC - (864) 998-4292). This should be a short paddle to the island. The only problem will be heavy motor boat traffic.
My wife and kids are planning a trip the first week in August, so that would be a good time for me to go. I also plan on making this trip again if one is put together in the Fall, but I also plan on making A trip while my wife and kids are in Michigan. I don't care where I go while they are away, but I am definitely going somewhere. "While the cat's away" and all that stuff and junk.

I rarely go to that end of the lake so I don't off the top of my head. I am doing a small section hike this week on the AT. I do some investigating on everything when I get back."Do you know of a closer Public access point to Goat Island?"
Aug and Sept is still going to be hot more than likely but I am down to go when ever.
I'm interested! Will depend on date due to work coverage.

I would also be interested after summer depending on work & such at the time.
I currently go Island camping on Lake Moultrie with a canoe. Lots of fun, but more Cottonmouths and Alligators than you can shake a stick at, seriously.
I'll keep up with this thread.
I like to go solo - off trail - immerse myself in the area - explore - eat really well - and make it back home.
I have attached an aerial image showing the distance from Greenwood State Park to Goat Island. Its not as far as I originally thought it was so for some, this may be a "doable" paddle trip. However, I like to motorized boat idea . . .
