    WM ripstop score!

Just picked up 16yrds of ripstop for .25 per yard. Sadly thy're closing out the fabrics department, but I should have plenty to work with for a while.

I'd advise everyone check your local store before they close. Ripstop at our local fabric store is $5 or more per yard.

I just scored 10 at 1$/yd of a light, olive drab uncoated ripstop yesterday. I stop by the one near my house every couple of weeks to check.

Hi, this is my first post after I introduced myself.

Do they sell ripstop at walmart?

    What weight? 1.1, 1.3, 1.9 oz?
By the way, what does that mean to the hammock capacity?

I was looking in the web for ripstop prices, and is absolutely expensive! 5.00 to 7.00 plus s&h.You end up paying more than for the less expensive hammocks just for the fabric!

Now, .25 Dlls per yard, that´s more like it.

I have never had a nylon hammock, so, are they made of a single layer of fabric, except on the hems, or are they made of two layers?

And speaking of fabrics, someone knows how much weight can stand a DIY Ghatered fabric hammock made respectively of No. 12 canvas , denim, and a fabric simmilar to the one used for Dickies shirts?
I am 110 Kg, a little more than 220 lbs, so am not sure if the regular 250 rated hammocks are for me.

If your Walmart still has a fabric section you need to pick through the $1.50 a yard section and there may be some ripstop among the rolls. You may need to check often. My local stores will sometimes have 1.1 rs, uncoated in olive green. Once in a while there will be coated material as well 0 usually a DWR finish of unknown quality. I am told there is sometimes silnylon - but haven't been that lucky myself.

the problem is that none of this is labeled and so you need to be able to ID the material yourself. There are posts about how to do this is you do a search.

Joanne's often has coupon's for 40-50% off - making it more reasonable.

nailer - I stopped in dozens of Walmarts during my travels before scoring a load of ripstop from their bargain bin.

Knotty - I suppose this is a one in a hundred find.
I'm going to the States in 2 weeks and will try to find some of it. Maybe I´ll be lucky.

I have never used this material, can it be cut and sewed like any other fabric or there are issues?

It's slightly more difficult to tame under the sewing machine foot, but that's just because it's pretty thin, and it doesn't take long before it's no problem at all. Synthetics can be cut just like any other fabric, plus you can melt the edges to keep them from fraying.

The Walmart ripstop is a mystery fabric. They always list it as made in the USA but unknown content (poly, cotton, nylon...?). Not too hard to work with.
