How Young Is Too Young???

took my 6 yr old daughter for some dad/daughter time to a local state park for some hanging and all around good fun. i took my wbbb and she took her newly acquired grand trunk single, a free gift from grand trunk, plus the suspension, all went wonderful, she did very well had used the wb yeti for her underquilt which acted like a full length due to her size, had two boy scout troops on either side of us,they were good and respctful even surprised to see a 6 yr old "hang'in. however i was asked if she was to young to be hanging. If all safety precatuons are followed, i believe she will be fine. Anyone else get any slack about the kiddies being "to little" to hang? i was 5 ft from her and set up to watch her threw out the night.

I took my son hammock-camping when he was 6 without any problems...I have trouble imagining how there could be...he's been camping since he was 4...

My boys both love hammocks wonder why Going to be making one for my younger sons birthday this week, he turns 3 on Saturday.

my thoughts as well NFA. when we were car campers she was with us at 2 months old and did very well. the wife and i were impressed on how easy it relly was. when prepared for the worst

Both of my girls have been in hammocks since they were 4 years old and they love them. I usually just put them in the hammock with me when they were younger. They both have their own hammocks but they did better in the hammock with Daddy. My 7 year old now sleeps in her own but my 4 year old won't make it thru the night by herself no matter how close we hang. I always make sure to hang them within inches of the ground just in case they get restless and take a tumble (they both have done this while sleeping at home in their beds at home). All in all they are safer in the hammock than in their beds at home.

my first question would of been, "Why? is they someone here i should be suspicious of?".
fairs and carnivals scare me the most. camping i think any age is fine.
was the hammock the issue?

My kids have gone camping with me since they were old enough to walk, and actually backpacking since they were old enough to listen to direction and go to the bathroom on their own.

My daughter did a 4 mile backpack trip (8 miles round trip) with me when she was five years old, and she carried her own clothes, food, etc. in her own little pack. This was not without some experience on shorter hikes of course, and I stayed right beside her the whole time. She still remembers the trip and looks at the photos occasionally, she is now 20 years old.

As far as too young to hang in a hammock, if she can safely enter & exit, and gets a good nights rest, I don't see a problem. When my daughter went with me at a young age we were still tenting, so maybe some of the other members may be aware of something I'm not.

But generally speaking I don't think kids are ever too young to get them out there, at some level of participation.

I started camping when I was 3 and think the only "danger" was it created in me a love for the outdoors.

I am happy to say I have been able to pass this "danger" on to my kids.

all very good the person asking me the question never did state the concern as to why they felt 6 was to young maybe just a over cautous parent??
