    Sliding Locking Knot help

    Looking for a little help.

My HH has a sliding locking knot on both sides of the suspension ropes that you can attach the tarp to. The sliding locking knots have a little plastic hook on each one that allows the tarp to be attached.

I am trying to reproduce this knot and am having some problems with my reverse engineering. Does anyone know the name of this Sliding locking knot so I could look it up on the internet or have a picture that shows how this knot is tied.

    Thanks for any help

that would almost surely be a prusik knot . If not, the prusik scratches where you itch anyway.

    Grizzly,

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the Prusik knot and agree that it is designed to do the same thing, Sliding and Locking.

When I looked at the knot on the hammock suspension ropes it looks like a modified or enhanced Prusik knot that I was having a hard time duplicating or finding on the internet.

I have played around with the Prusik knot and it seems to "loosen" a little more easily than the knot on the HH suspension ropes.

I am sure you know how it is, once you start looking for something nothing else will do until you find out how it works. LOL

Maybe you could post a picture of the knot?

give us a picture then...I've had HH hammocks but taking off those hooks was the first modification I made!

There is a whole class of sliding knots that will work in this context. A feature of the prusik is that it resists pull in either direction...a feature not needed when you know the pull comes only in one. The Klemheist is mono-directional hitch that I've found useful.

Mine are Prusiks. At least that is what I always thought they were. I remember I took one off once for some un-remembered reason. I retied it as a Prusik(sp?) and it looked the same as the original and worked the same, still does about 3 years later.

But who knows, HH may have changed the knot used on newer models?

Mine uses a two-wrap prusik and the retaining bight makes a turn around each leg.

Hennessy altered the traditional Prussic somewhat.

After wrapping he brings the loop around and through the other end. That seems to lock the loop in place and keeps the Prussic from unwrapping.
Those who sacrifice freedom for safety, have neither.

Do not dig your grave with your teeth. (Unknown)
