    1. Roads are fine for touring bike.
    2. It's about a half mile to hang site. There are some logs you would have to lift your bike over. You'd have to push it along rocky trail. You could get it there. Push up short steep hill right before hang site. Not a breeze, but doable, IMO.
    3. I don't know of any secure areas. You may want to contact park service about that. There's a museum and other buildings there where you could stash bike if Park Service allowed. You'd have to make arrangements with them.

Poppabear, I have a Scion XB and would be more then happy to lock your bike up in my car for the weekend. Im a 90% go, I just have to convince my Fiance (by then wife) because its my B-Day on October 17 and she wants to spend that weekend toogether, as well as its two weeks after our wedding which is Oct 3 and just need to make sure things have calmed down by then. But im hopeing we can make the Fall MAHA our Honey Moon, now isent that romantic

I also may be driving my Jeep, which has a hitch mounted bike rack on the back. It can be cable locked and the mount itself has a place for a padlock. If I take my Jeep you're more than welcome to lock your bike on the bike rack.
Proving to the world that I can hang.

Thanks WV, Happy Camper, Lazy River Road and Oscar-Blackeagle for your replies. Reading them makes me realize that combining my bike tour with the Fall Hang is very doable. So the planning is beginning in earnest. As it gets much closer to the hang dates. I will most definitely be looking to hook up with someone. Who attending and is willing to let me stash my bike in their vehicle during the hang. The members of this forum are awesome! Your wiliness to help a fellow hanger is heart warming and truly appreciated.

If I make it this fall and bring my blazer there is another option for locking up your bike. Can't promise I'll be there tho. Depends on how the disability plays out over the summer.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I'm iffy on this one. I have a 4 day business meeting with a vacation
tacked on before or after. I'm trying to arrange the vacation part
so as to be back in time.

The GAP runs from Pittburgh PA to Cumberland Maryland from there the C&O Canal Towpath pickups all the way to Georgetown, MD. A 330 mile trip. My idea is to incorporate the Fall MAHHA hand into my trip. I will be starting my bike tour from Pittsburgh heading South. The C&O Canal Towpath goes through Brunswick, MD. Looking on mapquest it appears as if GathLand State Park is not too far from Brunswick. I have three questions for those of you who have done this hang in the past. Would the roads between Brunswick and Gathland State park be safe to ride with a touring bicycle? I do not feel real good about leaving my bike at parking area in the park. Would it be feasable or possible for me push / carry it to the hang site? Or does anyone have a suggestion as to how or where I could secure my bicycle? Thanks! in advance for any input.
    PB,

FYI the nice cycling roads in that area are scenic but get quite hilly headed up to the parking lot at the trail head. It is also quite hilly from Point of Rocks (just off the C&O) north up to the hamlet of Burkittsville, and is quite a rigorous climb up from Burkittsville to the parking lot. Doable, but challenging with a touring load. The 1/2 mile trail from the parking lot is wide and easy to push a bike up with the exception of 3-4 logs across the trail. You would have to lift the bike over them.

The last steep section is quite challenging for a bike. You would need to unload and carry your gear up a narrow rocky path then return and carry the bike up cyclocross style. It's not long but steep and slippery if wet.
