I've always wanted to paddle that river and use the chickees.
Anyone want to get a paddle/hang organized say for December--surely the bugs have dwindled by then.

Med Guy -- December is fine with me. However, if given a choice I would prefer sometime in late October/early November. The bugs leave in late September. In late October there is more to observe: fall leaves, bird migration, wildlife, etc. By December, the area is pretty bland.

i picked Dec. because i'm booked until then so if you go take lots of pics/vids....and maybe scout the area for another round in spring. Would be very cool hanging over water; who needs those chickees anyway. I used them years ago as a tenter in the Everglades...they do have their purpose with tide influx-efflux....wonder if the Roanoke is tidal dependent-guess it depends on high on it your are. If any others are into 'bland' for Dec. let me know.

Wind dependent, for sure, but not tide. The Western Albemarle Sound is barely tidal, but all NC estuaries rise with a strong NE wind and fall with a strong SW wind.
