    Smoke Jumpers Sleeping Bag

A few months back at a gun show I stumbled across a sleeping bag at a table. First thing I noticed was how huge it was since I am a bigger guy at 6'2 300 lbs. The next thing I noticed was that it did not a zipper but was instead hemmed 1/3 of the way up forming a foot box. The guy said they were made for Smoke Jumpers to allow a quick exit. Kind of made sense to me. I have been rocking it in the hammock and it is awesome. I hate the constriction of a regular bag. I will post a pick later. I have not been able to find any information on these bags or seen another one. BTW it looked brand new and I scored it for $15.- George

    A $15 quilt? Nice score!
I've got a relative that is a former smoke jumper, I'll have to give him a call and see if he's got any of those things laying around. I'm scared to ask, but what's it weigh?

I will have to weigh it but less than half of my Snugpak mummy. Compresses small too. Royal blue on the outside and gray on the inside. Figure it would have to be light to be part of a SJ's kit.- George

The sleeping quilt would be considered a rip-off item so that there should be at least one iron on identification patch as to agency and base. Also, the smoke jumper pack out bag weighs in at around one hundred pounds.

Nunatak Gear makes a lot of sleeping bags without zippers but I don't see a royal blue one.

Oh, hey! That IS cool! Did you weigh it yet? Looks roomy, especially for the feet. Great find!
