Some of us plan on doing some overnights into the wilderness away from base camp. Will we need to make arrangements to get permits then?

Is there a burning ban in the Linville Gorge area? Several areas in Tennessee and Kentucky have bans in place currently.

"Walk-in permits, for the current week only, are available at the Linville Gorge Information Cabin, located on Kistler Memorial Highway. The cabin is open April-October, seven days a week, 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 pm."

That's what I saw as well. I did not know if there were enough permits to accommodate us or if I needed to drop by the visitor center beforehand.

I have a permit for 10. I think Hawk-eye has one for a few people. I don't know how many more of the group has them, but I believe permits are only issued for 50 persons per weekend for the entire wilderness area. I have heard the info cabin has 15, but don't know if that's on top of the first 50 or not.

We'll make do. Anyone who needs it is welcome to my permit. Personally, I've never seen or heard of them being checked, but that's not to say it doesn't happen.

    Louise's Rock House

I took the liberty of calling two days ago to warn Louise's Rock House that we were coming. As a precaution I called back today and they said they are already locked and loaded

There'd be hell to pay if'n I didn't get me some pie

Thank you for taking care of the "pie planning" for the gathering.
