I did that same loop several years ago. I remember it being very enjoyable. Saw a waterfall or two if I remember right.
I doubt I'd be able to make it, but I'll be interested in hearing about it!
BTW... see if they'll let you take one of those big trout at the hatchery w/ you to cook on the fire
I too will something make and joy in it's making
It departs from the Davidson River but has several tributaries along it's path. Grogan Creek, Cedar Rock Creek, an unnamed creek and the John Rock Branch.
I found multiple sites of varying numbers of hanging spots. Things are looking good.

A few pics from my recon-run yesterday. I did a 6 mile loop in under 3 hours with several geocache stops, snacks, and a good 'sit' on the bald.

I marked out 7 site along the way on my GPS. The trail was like a shag carpet compared to last week. Several sites on the west side, several on the east side, as well as one near the summit of John Rock. All but the summit site have easy access to water. They varied from 2 at one site to 15 at others.
BTW - Camping is now allowed.
My first encounter was a gentleman and his grandson coming out from camping over night. They had a great time and that young boy will carry the memories forever. He was "juiced". I also ran into several solo hikers as well as couples, and several families. (+dogs )
Things are looking great for whatever comes of this thread.

I am checking on a kitchen pass now. I used to live in Waynesville. Been a while since I was there. It would be nice to see those mountains again, if you don't mind a newbie hanger joining you.

Nice pics RF! You were telling me about how nice it is this morning, but wow! I'm definitely psyched for this overnight!
Those pictures are beautiful!
Looking Glass rock will be nice to see in the pre-dawn light as the sun makes it's way up over the mountains, after a good nights rest in my hammock!
