This will be a partial trip report, as I have not accomplished a hang in this particular area yet. I wanted to share the story anyway though.
So last weekend I headed out to hang in the Sigua River Valley. There is a small river stretching 7 miles with 9 waterfalls and 3 swim holes between two mountains (Mt Tenjo and Mt Alutom). This is considered one of the more difficult hikes in Guam due to the 1,180 ascent/decent. My hike was cut short last week when I took a wrong turn and went down a trail to a dead end. I tried bushwhacking my way through the jungle area at the bottom of the valley, but found some loose ground a little too late. I fell through the loose dirt and into a few swordbush plants (nasty plants with six foot leaves shaped like swords with serrated edges) and into the riverbed roughly 15ft below. Luckly, the only injuries I incured were a lot of nasty cuts, a few bruises, and a little bit of a sprained ankle. I made the hike out to tend my wounds.
I returned this weekend to get a better feel of the area. I hiked Mt Alutom and descended into the valley (without injury) and climbed Mt Tenjo. Again, I was not able to hang due to the river being very dry due to a small dry spell we are having...leaving me with no freshwater source. I did snap some pics though! It was an enjoyable hike and left me feeling accomplished after last weekends events. I plan on returning to hang once we have a bit of rain come through...
