How is a good lenght for a UQ?

I'm in the market for a UQ, and was wondering what length is a good length. With a half under quilt it packs smaller and is lighter all you need is a small pad. In a full length UQ you don't need a pad, but its heavier and takes up more space. Any suggestions?

I know I messed up on the title. So no messages about my bad grammar.

If your a backpacker then a 1/2 is good .... takes up less room in the backpack.

Its a matter of personal preference. I like a 3/4 UQ - it is lighter and less bulky. I find that the pad under my feet is no problem. The piece of foam pad also doubles as a sit pad and is used to stiffen my backpack (part of its 'frame.")

Some people can't keep the foam pad under their feet and prefer the full length. You'll need to see what works for you.

Is that what you use year round or do you change out your UQ in the summer for a different one?

I wont speak for shug, but I use a 2/3 length (48" long) UQs in all 4 seasons without issue. My low is 0*F using that size UQ

Do you cool enough in the summer or does it sometimes get way to hot?

I use a light 1/2 uq for milder weather and a 1/2 winter Yeti uq from Warbonnet for winter. I am a backpacker.

My summer UQ is very lightweight. and the winter one is much thicker...I too backpack

anything will be hot in the summer (unless it is above 70*F all night and then I use nothing)

I've found that the half UQ I made is more than adequet for me. If I get cold at night I use my sit pad under my legs and feet.
Works pretty good. It's all about the weight factor and multi-purpose use, when you backpack!
