Advice needed on hammock choice

Hi, I'm new to this site, and have gotten a lot of useful information so far. I am currently in the market for a hammock, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

I am looking for a hammock with a fully removable bug net, no side tie-downs (I like the "burrito" shape), and recommendations on a tarp.

So far I have looked at eno hammocks, clark, speer, grand trunk, HH, and the blackbird. HH and the blackbird seem to require that you use side tie-downs, and HH doesn't have a removable net, so I have pretty much ruled them out. I'm not sure whether using velcro for the bug net on enos is reliable long-term. I am currently torn between clark, speer, and eno, and would like any input.

You can get a 2QZQ Mod #4 for the HH which would allow you to have the almost the entire net zippered off except for the end where it would be still attached to the hammock but can be placed into a little sewn on sack and be out of the way! Also you don't "have" to use the side tie out's on either the WBBB or HH, but on the WBBB using the shelf might be a small problem if not tied out!? Also Warbonnet has the Traveler Hammock as well, which is a no net design just like the Speer and Eno, but the Warbonnet bug net is a little different than the other's, it is a complete enclosure with a zipper on the side, so no velroe, omni tape, or the like to deal with!

Welcome to HF.

You cant go wrong with an ENO. Unless you would rather have something hand made in the US along the same comfort lines... Then grab a WB traveler and one of the seperate bug nets Brandon sells. You dont HAVE to use the side tie outs on the BB or Hennessey. But they do help open up the hammock and make it seem roomier.

I dont have any experience with a Clark, but should have one in my hands this week.

Of all the hammocks I have, and have tried, my favorite is still my Traveler. Its simple, comfortable and very well made.

Side tie out use is not required on a BlackBird. Without using the tie outs, the BB is more similar to the WB Traveler. Most hangers like the shelf and extra room associated with the tie outs, though.

I've got the ENO Doublenest and Guardian bugnet. They do meet the requirements you mentioned and appear to be well made.

Another option is Trek Light hammocks (http://www.treklightgear.com), hand made very close to here in Boulder, CO. Their bug net uses a drawstring to cinch it up at the end, instead of velcro, and looks pretty simple and straightforward.

I started off with HH and have migrated to simple end-gathered hammocks. I liked the Grand Trunk Ultralight because it fit a great price point ($20).

Honestly, this is the hammock I recommend to all my friends because it is an inexpensive way to test out hammock camping without breaking the bank. There are others I can highly recommend (I like the HH and Brandon's hammocks are hard to beat too). Once you catch the bug, you'll soon have one of each!

Thanks for all of your help! I have decided to go with a HH expedition Asym and get the 2qzq mod#4 done to it. I can't wait to get it and replace my old no-name. Happy hanging!
