I think you should explain yourself first.

As long as I am in the woods hanging it is a perfect hang.

Without definitions of "high and low" and "close and far", the poll options don't really mean much to me.

That said, perfect hang is anywhere with two strong, widowmaker-free trees the right distance apart, placed appropriately for the weather, and no bear scat What makes hammocking so awesome is that there are so many more "perfect hangs" than "perfect spots for a tent"

A perfect CAMPSITE is a lot of other things, though - our site at the recent Colorado Spring Hang was dang near perfect. There was an existing fire ring, a clear, cold mountain stream, big beautiful boulders to use as wind breaks, and a large boulder at the perfect height to use for sitting and as a table. Here you can see Jeff's hammock, the fire ring and table rock, big boulder windblock, and a glimpse of the frozen stream to the left. Tough to beat that unless you're on top of a mountain with a killer view and exposed to the wind.

I was reading Rock's review of the Grand Trunk Nano and he stated that he likes the trees close and he hangs low to the ground. That was when I started thinking about the tree location...

Close - Trees just far enough apart to put my tarp up without much string between the edge of the tarp and the tree (like 6 - 12 inches on each side maybe).

Low - my butt is only about 3" - 6" off the ground.

I choose "far trees, low hang".
If the trees are farther apart, I swing longer & don't run into issues w/ the tarp fitting (slightly longer than the hammock), & I have room to choose/change hammock sag.

I like to hang low partly because it's safer, but more because I can reach stuff on the ground (Mocha!).

Of course, the suspension system you use has to be able to handle the growing demands of hanging from greater distances w/o stretching or breaking.

Stretching through the night & allowing your hind-end to start scrubbing the tightly stretched hammock fabric on the ground is not good
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I also picked close and low. My definition of close matches SGT Rock's but my idea of low is 18" or chair height.

Trees about 12-14 ft apart and at a height so that when i sit in the hammock its chair height, BUT, i will sometimes sacrifice any or all of that for a good view and or location as long as i'm still comfortable when sleep time comes.

Mustardman; this was last weekend plus cougar scat,,,funny there were no deer around.

and yesterday one ran up the driveway. Apparently it had been doing drive thru chicken next door.

On the height I choose... I generally like it just a little lower than a normal chair height... still good for sittin, & good for reaching stuff too.
