Well here we are Troop 49 at the Holcomb Valley group camp.
It's about 4 miles(on a dirt road) from town going up Van Dusen canyon. In 1860, gold was first discovered here by William F. Holcomb and Ben Choteau. They were miners who had been prospecting at Bear Valley. Holcomb found gold while he was tracking a bear in the valley later named after him.
We come up here about the same time each year with newer scouts while another group goes to OA ordeal.
So here's my rig. Gear guild 12x12 with snake skins. 1/8 amsteel blue ridge line with loop mods; toggle anker. Figuer 9 biner on the other end. Speer no-tangle tie outs.
My new hammock a Travel Hammock Hybrid. 8' whoopie slings and SRL on AHE tree huggers with dutch clips. Toggles are DIY cut down "slurppy" straw. AHE New River UQ. Old Kelty SB for an OQ. And a Colman pillow. Almost forgot the 4 pocket organizer from 2QZQ. Top it off with a HF flag. Temp got down in the 30s that night. I was snug and warm all night and was good to go for the next day.
My friend still using his "tin tepie" until he finishes his Speer DIY hammock and tarp.
Next day we made brakefast boritos. Mmm boy good stuff.
Then off for our hike.
