we did camp next to 1 Boy Scout Troop (yellow tents), just curious if you were nearby to that group?

Hope your trip was as fun as mine. We had one troop from Atlanta on one side and one from Columbia SC on the other. Their tents were a mixture. We were about 30-40 minutes north of Burrell's Ford. If I remember correctly, you were planning to stop south of that.

Get there on Friday. There was no place for people to park on Saturday.
I guess that means the fishing is pretty good.

As already said the food looks great, that freeze dried stuff just don't cut it for me year after year, I like to put a little effort into my food and really enjoy it.

I know exactly where you camped, I have been through there several times but not from Burrels Ford. I usually come in on the East Fork Trail from the Walhalla fish hatchery.
I like to set up camp and do day hikes, you are right about the falls it is worth the hike / climb.

Have you done the Fork Mountain Trail yet? It is up close to Ellicott Rock.
I haven't got to do much adventuring this spring due to work, but I would really like to meet up with some of you guys and check out your hammock set-ups sometimes.
I'm still using an older Henny & JRB quilt.

Have you done the Fork Mountain Trail yet?

I love that trail!
I pick up the Fork Mtn. Trail about 50 yards north of Sloans Bridge and take it all the way to the river. I've done that twice. This time, we wanted a lazy weekend, so instead of hiking 5 hours, we went 30 minutes.

Thanks for the links Swamp Fox I like to read and learn as much as possible about the areas around me.

Two years ago we (my son & a friend of mine) parked at Sloan Bridge and hiked the Fork Mnt Trail to the Chatooga, we bumped around doing day hikes for a couple days and then hiked back on the East Fork Trail to the fish hatchery. We did the grueling climb up fish hatchery road and picked up the Foothills trail and took that back to Sloan Bridge.

I was very impressed with the way the Fork Mnt. Trail followed the contour of the land and stayed pretty much level through all those coves and ravines. It was also nice and cool, temperature wise, considering the time of year we went.

I've been back a few times but have not done that loop again.

I love that area. It's one of my favorite's and like you I am a creature of habit so I camp in that area more than anywhere else. Each year I do a February trip w/ about 15 - 20 guys and we stay right there where the East Fork meets the Chattooga. Only bad part is it's so accessable when it warms up the area gets used pretty heavily.

Oh - another +++ on the over the top camp food! That certainly makes my typical fare look weak...
