just got my amsteel 7/64 in the mail...

...and holy crap is it cool. My wife says there's no way that she'll trust a rope that small and lightweight but I think I'll be able to change her mind.

Just wanted to express my amazement.

Mine should be here tomorrow. Planning my mods for this weekend. You can find Youtube videos showing how much it takes to break 7/64th with a constrictor knot. A whole bunch.

It is uncanny how fun it is to play with.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

It gets used up in a hurry. I had a 100ft and used it up in a week, now I'm working my way through another 250 ft. This stuff is fun to play with.

Has anyone had a problem with the color coming off? I bought the black and after making a half-dozen nacrabiners my fingers are black and the rope is now more of a dark gray than black.

That's pretty typical. Most of the Amsteel colors fade some when you work them with your fingers.

We used the term 'smurf-hands' for the fade of Blue Amsteel.

The gray color is the only one that isn't dyed.

It is actually dyed just with such a light dye that it will not seem to be rubbing off when working with small quantity's, Run a couple hundred feet a day through your hands and you will still get dark grey/ blackish rub marks. But it is not as bad as any of the other colors for it.

I've got the green now and haven't had any rub onto my hands. The last batch I had was red and it would turn my hands red working with it.

I got the green in my last batch. It was ugly, so I dyed it. Came out a beautiful forest green
