    clean-up help

Thanks in advance for any responses. Today I recieved a hh expedition side zip hammock for my son. He loves it. He let his grand father lay in it and we discoved he had stepped in dog crap. Soooo, how should I clean it? Can I stick it in the washing machine with unscented detergent (I have a front loader)? Hennessy care instructions say to hand wash. Also my son is 8 years old, Is there any dangers for him using a hammock that I may have not thought of yet? Once again, thank you.....

I would spot clean it and then if that wasn't good enough I would hand wash the hammock. I don't put hammocks with bugnets in washing machines. I think hammocks are safe for a 7 year old.

Powder detergent would be best something gentle like Woolite or Dreft(baby section in most grocery stores) would be second best to Nikwax gear wash.

The only problem I have with kids in hammock is that mine never wants to get up in the morning.

I would most definitely avoid machine washing an attached bugnet in a top loader. A front loader uses a different agitation action and might be ok. But for plain old peace of mind... hand wash.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I was wondering about cleaning hammocks too! On my TTTM nylon hammocks, it says machine washing is fine, as long as you bundle up the ends in a knot and stuff it into a machine mesh bag..

As for OP's, I would think spot treatment would be the first required step, before deciding if you want to wash the whole hammock..

When the spots in concern dryed out. I used a brush to knock it off. At that point you could hardly tell it was ever there. Then I used outdoor gear detergent to spot treat. after that, I hand washed the whole hammock. Then pre-rinsed in shower. Then rinsed in tub with alittle white vinegar. Finally shower rinsed one last time and hung to dry. WOW, I am pretty sure after this I'm OCD. A bit overkill, you think? But it worked very well. Thank you to everyone........................
