Kinda...Your holding the two loose ends in your hand, and use the bent end as a "needle", thread the bent end thru the rope, out at the appropriate spot. Using the "eye" of the bent wire, insert your rope, pinch the eye closed around the rope, pull wire and rope back thru.

I use about a 30 inch piece of wire, bend it in half, making a 15 inch "needle".

And you got to remember to work backwards with the wire so the rope ends up going back thru in the right direction.

Thickness of wire dependant on the thickness of..smaller rope + smaller wire

Re braided mason line, some of us tried 'em in the early days of the WS. IME they ultimately didn't prove to be worth the effort.

Props go to Gringo for turning me onto this...

    http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st...OP_selectitems

I use .024 for everything but the Amsteel and .035 for the Amsteel. Could probably go smaller than the .024 for the zing it and DG.. But it works well. I can get about 1000 to 1500 feet of zing it spliced before the wire breaks at the bend. But its stiff, doesnt deform at all like coated copper wire or the like.
