    Multi Use

I had to vote for three different types for it depends on which type of hammock I am using!

    Thank You Jeff

Number Five was a rather nice surprise
I sprinkle fairy dust on my hammock before going to sleep and it just floats, no tying required. Now if only I could fly!

You're just not thinking enough happy thoughts! (That's the secret flying ingredient for faerie dust.)

FWIW, I use the stock HH straps -- although I did order some that were the next size up, (72", I think) for the bigger trees in my yard. I can mix and match and join 2 together if necessary.

I may have said this in a trip report, but after reading all of this, I used Rock's idea of stock HH tree huggers/spectra and added 2 appropriately rated biners (Black Diamond Light D) into the system. I keep it permanently attached to my tree huggers (which I tend to drop without realizing). I no longer have a hard time trying to keep tension on the spectra during that first figure 8, and when I take my hammock down, my tree huggers stay on the tree until I'm ready to pack them. So, I'm happy w/this system. The 2 biners added 3.4 oz to my pack weight.
    This is my signature.

Switched from stock huggers about a year ago and now use 3/4" flat tubular webbing, 10' on either end, with double Al rings. Setup and takedown are fast and allows easy tuning of position. Here in the Pacific NW, trees are often too large even for these straps, and I've never been able to do a double wrap. Two drawbacks to this system: the extra weight over spectra and they CAN slip if you don't get the rings parallel and the webbing aligned on top and bottom. I let the running end of the strap hang down to act as a drip conduit, but have never seen it tested in a long, heavy rain.

    Option 2 - Webbing
Webbing is another good option. You don't need tree huggers so there are two fewer pieces to keep up with in your pack, and it's a bit easier to just wrap it around the tree than to keep the tree huggers in place while you lash. It's really not that big of a deal, though...the biggest difference between cord/huggers and webbing is simply personal preference.
I connect my webbing to the hammock just like the Spectra above. I sew a loop into one end, then form a larkshead and wrap it around the end of the hammock. Then I use some version of the 4-Wrap Lashing to connect it to the tree. Risk has two pretty good write-ups on the lashing. The Speer 4-Wrap and the Improved Hammock Knot based on the same lashing.

These straps are made from Ed's 1" Polypro webbing, with a finished length of 130" each. They weigh 2 oz each. This is the 4-wrap lashing, with the extra webbing just wrapped around the tree at the bottom. The hammock is inside JRB Python Skins.
This was the only way I ever knew how, but now it is so easy for me, that I will probably just stick with it

    I'm still roping.

I intend to switch to webbing before the next excursion. I'm trying to understand how the details work, but don't quite get it yet.

I need to order the rings webbing and carabiniers and "just do it" I guess.
