    UQ/TQ Momentum 90/ Primaloft Sport

Hi everyone, I just recieved my momentum 90 and primaloft sport. I ordered primaloft over climashield because I have equipement made with PL and I like the softness of it. I heard CL is good as well, but never used it. I see that DIY instructions usually use CL. Will I be able to use the same technics for stabilizing/quilting PL Sport as its done on CL? Any ideas on Stopping insulation from shifting around. I was thinking about sewing tabs on the inside of lining and shell then connecting with yarn loops. That way I would not have yarn showing on the outside. Thoughts? Thank you........................

I didn't use any yarn loops on my momentum/ climashield UQ or TQ, but don't know about primaloft.

With the price of momentum, I'd say you'd be better off with the climashield. Have any projects you could use the primaloft for in the future?

I'll let others chime in, as I really don't know. Only know that loops aren't really needed with the cimashield.

If your primaloft is pre-quilted, you are probably good to go. There seems to be a problem stabilizing primaloft as compared to climashield.

Paul from Thru-Hiker.com has this to say:

"Continuous filament insulations like XP are a better choice for large panel items like quilts while apparel works better for apparel. You can use PL sport for a quilt but you’ll have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it stabilized correctly. I don’t think primaloft is a practical choice for a quilt (with the exception of the prequilted momentum-pl1)."

I think the "apparel works better for apparel" is a typo. Basically, primaloft is better for small panels like jackets and vests were climashield, which is has more inherent stability, is better for large panels like quilts.

    Hope this helps.

I made a quilt 3 years ago with Primaloft. I put a few yarns in but not too many and it still works fine. I have about 30 nights on it as a UQ, a TQ and a ground top quilt. It seems to be fairly stable. The Primaloft material had a scrim (very lightweight cover) laying on it and I just left it on, IIRC. The quilt drapes nicely and compresses well for synthetic.

I've had my PL/IX UQ for a year & a half, and slept in it almost every night. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that I simply sewed a series of hand bar tacks at random across it. The only reason I did it was because I read that it should be quilted, but it wasn't 'cause it was separating.
