    Down TQ's made using BWDD's 1.1oz RS 2nds

Yet another testimonial to this great fabric, I submit, the last two quilts I've made using Scott's Olive 1.1oz RS 2nds (one using my mysterious grey 1.1oz RS 2nds), and of course, Stormcrow's awesome 800+fp down.

I make custom quilts, so if anyone is in need, hint hint:

Finishing up one now with a head-slot for serape-style use. I'll post pics manana.

    Wow, looks great...
Okay, now for the usual questions...
    How much does it weigh?
    Size?
    Pic of it Packed?
How much down fill is in it?
    What loft do you have?
    Price?
    Do you do uq's?
Do you need someone to test it?? hint, hint.
    Ambulo tua ambulo.

    jdempsey,

Very nice work! I have a question, in the circular foot box, did you cut the top fabric wider than the bottom to compensate for the greater circumference? Also, did you differentially cut the baffles in the footbox?

    Again, really professional job!

Haha, questions I can answer, and thanks for the compliments!

Ok, both of the quilts in the pictures are minimum 2" loft, but as the quality of stormcrow's 800+ is really "+", even though I calculate all fill at 800, it definitely lofts a bit more.

I generally overstuff the footbox even more, and always use slightly shorter baffles than desired loft.

The first one weighs in at 15.8oz, the second one was made wider (56"), and weighed about 17.5oz.

As to the question of differential cut in the footbox, the answer is no, I don't really think it's needed. The baffles are also not differentially cut.

As to the cut, the first one I cut with a half taper, from the middle down to a finished 34" footbox (which is the size I use in my quilt and works great for my size 9 foot), the second one is a full taper from the top, down to a 38" footbox.

As to underquilts, well, I haven't made one yet with down, it's next on my to-do, but there are already a couple great options for down UQ's here, so I doubt I'll be trying to compete there.

Thanks for the spec information. I am in the process up grading my gear. So you have peaked my interest. How about temp rating. Do you have any idea on that yet? Also there was no mention of price. That is a very important consideration when choosing a quilt. At the bottom of your post. You mention that you were finishing up on a quilt with a head-slot for serape-style use. Got an pics of it yet? PM me if you are not ready to go open forum on some of your specs yet.

Stuffing the one with the head hole now, so pics soon come.

Both of those bags should be good to ~30deg. Depending on your internal heater.

According to thru-hiker's chart, 2" loft should be good to 30deg assuming adequate bottom insulation, I tend to agree with their ratings.. However the BPL loft stance of 2" being good to 25deg seems a bit low IMHO.

I used a Western Mountaineering Highlite for a long time unzipped in quilt mode, which is 1.75" loft (per side, which is why they list it 3.5" loft closed), which seemed consistently good to it's 35deg rating, so I think thru-hiker's chart is pretty on point.

As to the price issue, I haven't nailed it down, and I'm not trying to turn this into a commercial thread.. Just showing my work. Anybody interested in something feel free to PM me. Otherwise, I'll be approaching the mod's as per the rules soon, to post something in the "Other Services" section.

    Thanks!

    As requested:

If I look crazy, it's cause it's 4am, and I feel like Nicholson in The Shining.

Oh yeah, this quilt was made for a really big guy. I'm not.
