    Two-person Hammock?

I tried searching for info on this but couldn't find anything. Please re-direct me if I missed it.

Are there any comfortable two-person hammocks out there?

My fiance and I will be hiking the AT next year and we both would like to use hammocks as shelters, but we would also like to sleep together. Any solutions...?

There are a few 'double nest' hammocks, like this. Even those, though, are more comfortable for one person. A much better solution would be to get two hammocks, but hang them very close together from the same trees, perhaps one slightly higher than the other. You might even get away with using one large tarp for the two.

You'd better be sure, though. That's a lot of time in proximity. Sometimes, when you're tired from a day's hiking, it's nice to stretch out and have your own space.

here's a thread that talks about the possibility of 2 people sleeping in the same hammock...
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ghlight=double

it seems to me that two hammocks sharing the same tree for the foot supports of both hammocks & two trees a few feet apart for the head end supports, is one of the best solutions so far.
here's a picture of three hammocks under two, overlapped tarps...

Thanks for the info. I think you're totally right, AngrySparrow, about the space issue and even the idea of two people in one hammock.

Has anyone set up their hammock as a tent and slept on the ground? I wonder if I could build a couple hammocks that could be attached to each other in such a way as to form a decent tarp shelter for those nights when we wanted to sleep together and didn't mind being on the ground. I'm not sure what to think about that just yet. I love my HH and can't imagine sleeping in anything else, but the asym. shape probably wouldn't lend itself well to being coupled with another. A better solution would most likely be to make combinable tarps or something.

yeah, i doubt two could sleep comfortably in any of the hammocks out on the market here in the US. i think the 'double' hammocks are more for afternoon lounging together or in the upright sitting position, like a couch.
