    Flame retardant ripstop??

I was looking for "royal" color ripstop nylon and was directed to Seatle fabrics.
Thier 1.1 ripstop specificly states it is NOT flame retardant, while other list nothing.
Is most rip stop nylon flame retardant and this is not ? or is all Ripstop nylon NOT flame retardant ??

The actual flame is not the biggest problem with synthetic fabrics. Nylon and polyester are somewhat difficult to ignite. However with sufficient heat they are almost worse than a flame would be as they melt and stick to whatever they happen to melt onto. Not a happy thing as the molten goo is extremely hot and causes extreme burns from contact. Any attempt to pull the molten goo off the skin will usually tear the skin and flesh away with it.

I feel much better now Rev
I was wondering why Seattle fabrics list thier 1.1 as "NFR", while others have no referance to FR or NFR.

I found this, but not doing me much good.

Any tent I ever remember seeing is distinctly labeled "not fire retardant" on a content label. I know federal law requires infant and children's sleepware to be fire retardant and they are all labeled with special washing instructions. But that is hardly the kind of fabric one would call ripstop. Why are you so concerned about the fire retardant qualities of the ripstop? If I may ask.

    Rev,
Not sure why I became paranoid about the flame rating
But seeing some listed as "NOT Flame Retardant" made me think there was Ripstock Nylon that IS Flame Retardanat, and if I had a choice I would take the "Flame Retardant" as I am making under quilts for my kids hammocks.

I am starting to guess that "flame retardant" is just a "spray on" that is gone in a year?

    Am I thinking to much

Fire and nylon do not mix. Ever. Just the notion of "fire retardant nylon" is dangerous, because it can foster a false sense of security. It's not uncommon to see tenters using stoves inside their tents, and it scares the hell out of me.
