Those bobbin winders pivot to provide a friction drive from the flywheel. There should be a locking cam if you put a bobbin on the winder and push it toward the wheel. When the bobbin is wound properly it should pop back out and release the friction drive. Hope this helps. The thread routing to thee bobbin may be intuitive but it must be done properly or the bobbin will not be wound with the proper tension creating problems as the thread comes off the bobbin.
