I have a large dog, Misto, a Newfie. I have a tyvek sheet that I put under my tarp for her, but she always winds up sleeping wherever she wants to...usually on a pile of leaves in the rain.
Dimensions of the hammock will vary with the dimensions of the dog. My dog is 70 lbs, and his hammock bed is about 32" x 30", except that one side is only 24". Just figure how big a pad your dog needs to lie on, and make the hammock bed about that size. My hammock is insulated, and so is my dog's. One of the reasons I made him a hammock is that he doesn't get much insulation from his own coat, and he tries to crawl into my hammock when he's cold (and/or wet). Having the dog hammock directly under mine is not a good design because he gets up and turns around about three times during the night. I'll experiment with hanging his hammock closer to one end the next time it's cold enough.
I have a chihuahua. I'm thinking my Jeff's Hammock/Pack Cover would be perfect for him. All I need is a small blanket and he'll be plenty warm.
Proving to the world that I can hang.
That dog hammock is one of the coolest things I have seen. Great work.
Not really a hammock per se. Just a square piece of silnylon with a draw string around the four sides. Rig it up to the head of the hammock and add in padding for the dog. Here's what I'm talking about: http://www.jacksrbetter.com/JGHPC.htm
