    Hammock Camping w/ a Dog?

I like to camping with my dog but haven't really found a way to hang with my dog comfortably. Any ideas from you guys maybe a small hammock for the dog or a tent?

I have backpacked with a dog for many years, just me and the dog most times.
I just let the dog sleep on a pad under my tarp right beside / under me.

My dog was a northern breed so cold weather was not a problem.
Unfortunately my dog died last week, he was 14 1/2 years old. He was a great backpacker and actually ended up teaching me a good bit about being aware of my surroundings.

What kind of dog do you have?
I like to go solo - off trail - immerse myself in the area - explore - eat really well - and make it back home.

AccidentProne, do you have a small or large dog? I've slept with my 50# standard poodle in a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe. Was a real pain getting both of use in through the bottom. Had a zipper mod done and it is much easier now. Pretty tight with the 2 of us but after a day's hike, we're out like a light.

I have a forty pound cattle dog and she sleeps right underneath my hammock on a 1/4 inch ccf pad with a fleece blanket in the winter no blanket in the summer but I always give her a pad. I do tie a rope to her leash and keep it on her at night tied to my wrist. Makes me feel safe as well as makes sure she dosent bolt after an animal in the night time.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I have a Golden Doodle (Standard Poodle and Golden Retriever) that weighs about 65 pounds. Have camped with him (Marlee) with a tent, a tarp, a shelter (leant-to) and hammocks. Still haven't settled on anything other than he sleeps where he wants to sleep. I've taken CCF pads for him and have spread out my rain jacket for him but he doesn't use them, preferring to lay in the leaves or on the ground. He moves around at night but is never very far, often coming to my hammock to nuzzle me through the netting or to get petted. I RARELY tie or leash him at night and am yet to have him get into trouble. That said, I did come home a week ago when I intended to hang overnight on the AT in NJ because he and I saw 2 bears and a rattlesnake within 15 minutes and it was too late to hike far enough away from them to feel comfortable with my dog.

I told the kids when we got Marlee that I had dibs on him when we went cold weather camping to keep my feet warm. Well, the only time he slept at my feet was for a half hour in a shelter immediately after he had been sitting out in the rain! As soon as he got my quilt nice and wet, he got up, licked my face once and went somewhere else.

I have a Labrador Retriever, so I would consider him a large dog.

A lab is frequently a large, wet dog. Better if he/she sleeps on a pad under your hammock.

I'm with you there, should the pad be just long enough for the dog to lay out on then?

Probably. Whatever works for you and the dog. My dog has a thin coat, so when he's cold he uses his hammock instead of mine. [IMG][/IMG]

What are the dimensions on your dogs hammock? And does he even have a UQ that you made!
