Hammock Camping w/ a Dog?

Jackson is a 70 lb (9 month old) Australian Shepherd. Last Saturday was our first campout together. He slept next to my low hung ENO Doublenest on his fleece blanket.

I told my wife I had to buy the DN just for this purpose. Not sure she believed me.

Beagles are a high-energy dog. My chihuahua has been inside his whole life and the most exercise he gets is running to get his treat. He wouldn't last very long. I took him to a local park on a leash and he just stopped walking after a short distance. I had to carry him. lol Before you ask, no he's not fat. He's not like a lot of chihuahua's which have a small head and a fat body. He's lean and well defined.

what he seems to need is endurance training..walk till he stops, then drop a treat a few feet ahead. when he stops going for the treat, then you can pick him up and go rest.!
my dogs never ever got that tired, but they were terrier mixes...KM

This is interesting. My pup is about the same weight but I'm 5'9" and 250lbs. After spending my first night in my ENO Doublenest I just can't picture squeezing her in there with me.

I wonder if I was to hang the ENO beside my Chrysalis and have it low to the ground if she would be ok in that...I could put a closed cell foam pad in it so her claws don't tear the fabric and then have a blanket to throw on top of her. IF I could hang them almost side by side...could be a half decent set up...any thoughts?

Oh and I like the idea of having her up off the ground and in her on comfortable sleeping quarters since she is a cold sleeper.

Bug-Bait has this really cool doggie tent his Misto, I got to see it at the Spring MAHA last year and have been searching for a similar item since. It probally wouldent fair well packing it due to weight but its great for car camping. I only camp with my dog in Spring and Fall (summer to hot winter to cold) so I dont need to worry about any thing more then a 1/4 ccf pad. I cut it in an oval shape to fit the way Stella curls up when she sleep and to carry minimal weight. It's the dog food that really gets heavy.

Same here. And I also lost my beloved buddy (at the same age) last week. (So sad). He was a heeler x German shepherd.

I packed in a fuzzy fleecy thing that weighs nothing, about 3' square, for him to sleep on and put it under my hammock. When I would get up to pee I would put my feet on it (among the dog legs) and slip my boots on. There was no problem at all having him sleeping under my hammock.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses. My parents family dog passed away last winter while my doggie was just a pup...it's so sad to see a loved one pass on.

I appreciate the suggestions.
