    Pockets

I want to sew a pocket to the under side of my HH. Does it need to be the same size as the HH or is it OK to just sew a pocket to fit the pad I'll put in it.

I think the common wisdom is that it's not a good idea to perforate the main body of your hammock with needle holes, that it may weaken the fabric there.

I would advise that you sew the pocket to the edges of the hammock, and not just stick a pocket in the middle of the body of the hammock. There are other stitches around the edges, and your weight is better distributed there.

A full length of fabric added as a sleeve pocket is best. If it is not full length, the pad can move around to much. A few folks have tried partial sleeves. Not good results.
You'll also get a lot of buckling/folding of the pad, if it is not secure and tight to the body.

Yeah, that's a tough question to answer. With most lightweight fabrics the strength of the hammock body could be compromised by sewing through it in an area that is under high tension when it is occupied. Unfortunately, that's where you need the pad. A few of the members here have made down-filled hammocks which involved sewing through the body in many places. They had mixed results with durability. Most of the HH's are made of a heavier material and are sewn through at the bottom entry slit, an area of very high stress. The stitching there is reenforced with a binding material, but obviously it holds up very well.
If you get this to work, you will have solved a huge problem for HH users as a whole, a no fuss and comfortable way to stay warm with a pad.
Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you. Good luck!

I've been wanting to do the same thing with my HH. If you do get around to doing it. Could you post some pictures and tell how you like it?
