    Speeding up camp entrance/exit times

Hey everybody! I am a speed demon when it comes to setting up my camp and taking it down. I have configured my tarp by attaching it permanently to continuous loop prussics on my ridgeline so that i don't have to use toggles and suffer from the weight of mini biners. My ideal strategy is: minimal weight, maximum speed. From doing trips i realize that mileage is due in a large part to time spent setting up/taking down camp. One can end up losing an 1-2 hours depending on ones speed.

So i would like you all to list the things you do to your hammock/tarp setups to speed up takedown/setup. I have heard of people stowing their hammocks with their UQ's attached, and their topquilts inside, seems like a good idea. You would need one giant stuff sack for that, if anyone is doing something similar, please elaborate.

Also Sam @ BPL posted this, which i think we need to find ways to apply to hammocking:

"Minimize Steps - I pack my quilt into my pack while its still inside my bivy sack. This is faster and it also creates a redundant waterproofing system within the confines of my pack/pack liner. "

    from: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-...hread_id=33400

This method is a great idea IMO.

So share your speed secrets for hammock setups for those of us who like to see as much as we can(mileage).

Just to reiterate, we are looking for ways to speed up setting up/taking down our setups without adding weight, or adding miniscule weight.

I do the all-in-one-stuff sack with my Traveler, which is my chosen UL trip hammock. I simply made a large BishopBag with Spinn. The BishopBag lives on the footend of the hammock and when I'm ready to break camp, I just unhook one side of the hammock suspension from the tree and cram everything into the BishopBag. Works pretty well, although the Yeti requires a little adjusting when setting up camp; at least 5 seconds.

Uncompressed, the hammock/quilts bag fills the better part of my ULA Ohm pack. So, I put it in first and then start cramming stuff on top of it.

Well said ... although I do like having my tarp ready to deploy quickly in a shower! But other than that ... no big rush on my part these days!

Riverpirate: if I was going through life too fast I would not be hiking. I don't go hiking to setup camp and take it down, I go to be out in the wild, seeing as much of the great outdoors as i am able.

I agree. Time in the woods is best spent at a leisurely pace. If I feel rushed, then I might as well have stayed at work.

I am all about being effecient and orderly, but I have to ask... What's the rush? Sometimes I find some awesome (stealth) sights and take my time packing up do I can enjoy them as long as possible before moving on.

My point is enjoy the set up too. You are passing up some good roses to smell some other ones. They all smell different but they all smell good.
