    Hanging in Alabama!!

I would be happy to organize a hang in North Alabama. Would love to see what interest we would have and welcome any ideas. I've got a few myself.

(Yes, you Tennessee folks would be welcomes as well :P)

I do know of a great greenway near Guntersville Dam that is public use, and has tons of trees. Ah, just lemme see interest and ideas and we'll go from there. But I love the idea of a hang out.

I'm going to try and get together a late summer hang. I'm working with TVA to see if I can get permission to host this at Cave Mountain Small Wild area near Guntersville Dam. Accessible to everyone (we can even get wheelchairs back there), yet at the same time remote enough to be a great spot. With some neat things to see in the area.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Cave+M...=0CBgQpQY&sa=X

Kayakers and Boaters can paddle up to the bat caves in the evening on the lake and watch the bats come out to feed, you can paddle up just passed Goat Island and see the carving in the cliffs. You can just cruise (Bike or car) down from the wilderness area and check out the Dam (If you go inside and find someone, more often than not they are happy to give a tour and show you the inner workings of it.). There is a small cave that is kid safe most of the way (About 3/4 of a mile deep or so before it hits a wall with a rope you can climb over and through a tight spot then drop back down another rope and get's more technical from there) back if you want to take some young ones on a small adventure different from the norm, but the cave is quite defaced because of idiots having fairly easy access to it with spray paint. A couple of short hiking trails. Etc.

Over the last several years they have taken one of their big fields and turned it into a beautiful greenway that could easily host 50 to 60 hammocks, and that's not counting the forrested area around it.

Hopefully they will allow backcountry camping back there, or issue a permit for the hang event and it's guests. I'm awaiting return contact. If not, I have other ideas in mind.

The main issue is dealing with the heat. But we're Bama natives, so we should be able to pull it off. Once TVA lets me know something I will be posting more concrete details.

Sounds like a great trip! Have alot planned right now but if you were to consider this again in the spring especially when its a bit cooler, this would make for a good family outing.

I would certainly consider doing it again around late spring, then maybe turning it into a yearly spring event.

Sounds Good! Lots of fun things to do. The carving in the cliffs sounds like something I need to see. I'll try to make it.
