Help hanging my tarp

Still a newb. Just set up my new MacCat Standard (which seems great by the way). Based on your advice I hung the tarp directly to the tree. I've got my hammock as tight as I can make it, but when I get in it, the hammock drops almost two feet below the ridgeline of the tarp.

My hammock is still new - I haven't slept in it yet, but I have layed in it a bunch. I suppose I've still got some stretching going on, but it seems like I'll have a hard time keeping dry if I am giving up two feet of coverage.

Any suggestions?

Tie the tarp lines below the hammock lines.

call me crazy, but i think if you don't hang your hammock so tightly, the hammock won't drop so much when you get in.

you might have to slide your tree straps up the tree a bit to maintain the same clearance (hammock bottom), and yes, if you are using a seperate ridgeline for your tarp, set the tarp/tarp ridgeline as low to the netting as possible, even if this means tying it under your tree strap height.

If I remember correctly, your using a Hennessy Hyperlight. Hennessy's should be hung tightly.

Well now, there's a thought! I'll need to look into that approach, as I always get a lot of HH sag also, despite much tightening with cinch buckles. I start out with hammock ridgeline tight against tarp rideline, but not after I get in. Maybe I should concentrate more on gettin the hammock straps even higher above the tarp straps, and notquite so tight. I'll try it. I kind of have to take that approach anyway now, as I'm concentrating on my Speer with no structural ridgeline. So lots of sag to start with in the middle.

Definitely tie your tarp to the tree lower than your hammock. I tie mine about six inches lower and my ridgeline is still six inches lower than my tarp once I get in. I use a homemade tarp modeled after the MacCat Standard and still get good coverage/wind blockage.

I attach my to my hammock main lines using a surgical tube tensioner land the stock hennessy hammock clips. It's always a few inches above the ridge line and the tensioner does a good job of keeping reasonable tension.

Some day when the Hennessy clip packs it in I'll probably tie the tensioner to the main line with a prussik knot.

The plastic stock clips on my HH bent early on for me. I like a taut tarp. They just didn't function well in my opinion. I removed them a long time ago.

Okay, hanging the tarp beneath the hammock did get the hammock ridgeline much closer to the tarp, BUT

Now I can't create as much tension on the tarp because until I actually get in the hammock, the tarp is being held artificially high by the hammock. When I get in the hammock, it sinks, thereby lowering the tarp.

Maybe there's still plenty of tension, but that MacCat sure looked awesome when I had it set very tight.

I'm using the BPL Air Core Nano guylines with tensioners. Is there a way to put something like the JRB tensioners on that kind of set up? Would the surgical tubing help take up the difference?
