Just a heads-up for anybody heading to Colorado for a vacation and for those of us lucky enough to live here. The forest service has issued advisories for campers all along the front range. I can't find an actual link to give you; I saw it on the news tonight. Here is a story about the problem in general. The warning is for trees killed by the dreaded pine beetles. Many of them look very solid, but are rotten on the inside. Takes about 10 years from infestation to fell timber.
I've been up the last few weekends and it really is a sad thing to see this beautiful landscape full of brown potmarks. If you plan on hanging on a trip out here, please spend some extra time pushing on trees that you think you want to hang from and don't forget to check the surrounding trees too. Don't wanna read about any squished hangers in the news.
