    Water

Sorrel Creek was running fine as usual and a water source below that at 1.5 miles from CDB. I'd read reports of another water source .2 miles below Deep Gap but wasn't trusting in that as the next water source is half way up the CMT and 500' in elevation gain (not happening). Darryl was trusting though. We came across the 'trickle', which has since been nicknamed "Darryl's mud puddle". Sure enough we got to Deep Gap and he hiked back and filled the gallon jug

That's the water pipe which is 1/2 way up the CMT on the West side.

Slow and steady. It even has a water bottle bracket (stick) so you don't have to hold the bottle as it's filling!

Nice report. I had heard about this place and was going to suggest it at some point to the forum to see what people thought. What I had heard was if you want to camp near the top you have to almost pass the top and start down the other side or something like that to get to a camping area, or you have to camp short of the top. I heard it was quite rugged and very steep and you need to bring water if you want to camp near the top. Shining rock is a favorite of some I hear.
