    Hey fellow hangers,

I'm actually from the El Paso area (that city between Mexico and New Mexico). I'm new to hanging too, I've gone a couple of times to Gila National Forest and I'm thinking about taking a trip to Lincoln National Forest. Does anybody know any great places to hang in Lincoln around the 4th of July weekend?

    monkeyboy,

The 4th is the busiest weekend in the LNF. To me that's the bad news. The good news is, if you hike a mile or two away from any trailhead the people disappear. You can hike along flowing water on the Southfork or the Argentina trails. Both have plenty of trees and both connect to the Crest trail after 5-6 miles if you want to hike. If you want more hiking and hanging both of those trails can be turned into loop trails back to your car by connecting with the Bluefront and the Little Bonita trails respectively.

... thought I'd post back in after asking my questions last month.

I wasn't able to make it down to Lincoln National Forest, at least not at the right time for camping (my trip plans had changed rather dramatically by that point) but I was able to dispersed hang one night in Cibola National Forest, just east of Albuquerque. A very pleasant hang, too, at least to this noob. Cibola looks like it deserves some entries in any, "places to hang near Albuquerque" list.
