this summer we are doing a week long canoe trek along the Adirondack lakes in upstate NY. the trip is a little over a month away so i want to get a hammock soon to get some hang time in before the trip.

i have been looking at the clark north american. it seems really cool and looks like it comes with everything. the price is a little much but it looks like a quality piece and it will def get used. i would hate to buy a cheap one and have it not last after a couple months of hard camping.

what hammocks do you guys recommend? what hammocks should i stay away from? i dont have a problem spending 3-400 on a set up if its going to last me a couple of years but i am always looking to save money.

also, i tend to camp more often in the fall and winter months. so getting a hammock that i can set up to keep me warm in the freezing cold is a plus.

Welcome fellow scouter!! I am doing the same thing with our troop. I am new to the hammocks camping as well. I have a WBBB and just ordered a Superfly(just got a shipping notice yesterday). I am waiting for delivery of 5 in1 jerry chair/ UQ from MacEntire and I also got one of his Molly MacPacks as well Suppose to ship today). I figure if the boys see the Scout Master try the hammocks they would at least give it a shot as well. Boy was I right I have made 5 diy hammocks last month and more boys are considering it. I am going to live in my hammock at summer camp at the end of the month to show the boys that tents are not the only game in town. Good luck with the troop and keep up the good work with the boys!

Wow, don't hear much on the boyscouts any more! I'm a future newbie to hammocks (still need one) and a former scout. I never made eagle, but learned a lot that I still use today.

    Cool Jeep!

Welcome from another avid Scout leader and hammock camper of a couple plus years now. I swear by the WBBB. Two of my three sons, Scouts of course, love the WBBB too and the third is a Clark NX-250 lover. Though I recommend the WBBB / Superfly combo if you decide on the Clark NA, I have one that I am willing to make you a deal on. Excellent condition. It was my first hammock before I moved to the Blackbird.

Here are links to recent Scout outings with my boys and me and their hammocks:

Let me know by PM on that Clark NA if you decide to go that route. Good luck.
