Is there any locations in the middle of the state or higher, rather than lower Ohio?

I like big hammocks - I cannot like.
Geneva Hills (Just S. of Lancaster) has a lake for fishing and kayaking. Camping is $6.50/night. They accomodate groups, It might be a good jumping off point to Old Man's Cave, Burr Oak, etc.
And HamMike, they have a Poollll!!!

OOPS, yea I forgot Hocking Hills. Great scenery, esp for Ohio. Do they allow camping in the woods there? Has been over 30 years since I was in the area.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

was just at hocking last month. stayed at the state park.
they have both a "main campground" that IMO is blown out and not worth it.
(but it depends what you're looking for)

.. they also have "primitive hike-in" grounds... about 30 or so sites, offering more seclusion and tranquility, most with "the perfect trees". this is where i stayed and it was pretty cool for not being "on the trail".
there's almost too much to choose from really- but its one of ohio's gem's--(when its not insanely busy)

DOWNTOWN BROWN!!!!
Just got back from hanging in Hocking Hills the week after Memorial Day. Great time. I grew up in Logan but live in Illinois now. Might check out Zeleski in the area too.
Hey Trout!
I won't be able to make this hang. I grew up near Wooster, Ohio; so, may I suggest Mohican State Park? About 20 miles from Mansfield, OH - near Loudonville. I've stayed there a couple times. Camp sites are small - along the river and 'coons WILL try to get at your food. Altho' sites are small, where I stayed, you could get 3-4 cars in and trees are plentiful (on a steep slope). There's a p-lot for overflow about 1/2 mile downstream. Deep in a gorge; so nice and cool in the summer.
You can hike all the way upstream to the Pleasant Hill Dam reservoir with some trails from there - one leads to the snazzy Pleasant Hill Lodge.
Have fun! BTW, Tracy is heading to Boston then Maine for a vacation. I will be hanging in a swamp this weekend - probably spend all my time laying in a stream with SkyDog.
Happy Trails,
J.D.
I never drink water. I'm afraid it will become habit-forming.
