. ill probly get a sleeping bag that goes down to 15 degrees f and see how cold i can handle with that.

this will work for the first few times. the more you use it the more you will compress the insulation on the bottom of the bag. I started with a 20 degree bag, and after a handfull of hangs, I developed cold spots under me. If you have a reflective sunshade for your car windshield put that under you. Yu will be amazed at how well it works. don't worry about getting all the latest and greatest stuff just starting out. you can easily get into hammocking for under about 50 dollars. have fun and enjoy yourself
