I just got back from a 7 day trip to the AT. I went from Deep Gap to Fontana Dam. Hardest climb was up from Nantahala Outdoor Center up. I have been using an expedition Jungle Hammock. I Take two lightweight military poncho and two poncho liners. If I hit rain during the night I use both poncho's to cover my hammock. I did have a little wicking problem the first wet night but cured it with wrapping cloth duct tape around the straps with about a foot of tape hanging down. One poncho liner goes in the bottom seam of the hammock and the other over me if needed. I use to 3/8" wooden dowels to separate the mosquito netting on each side. I cut a small groove in each end to slip the fabric rung and the elastic cord into each side. I try to keep it simple. When I tie off to trees I simply start my wraps at eye level and that puts the hammock about 2and a half feet about the ground. No bear sightings for me and only saw one or two persons a day on the trip except for near fontana Dam. what a wonderful site for hammock users. Thanks . Going again in September
