I had a coupon for joanns so i decided to get some polyester and give it a try just for fun. WE shall see how it turns out!!!

That's why McNett sells two formulas of their seam sealer stuff, one for silnylon, and one for other normal tent fabrics.

There's a good chance that the places the sil is sticking to are the places that the polyurethane wore off. Try placing your tarp on a concrete surface and spraying it with water. maybe you'll be able to see the places that leak. That's just a thought.

No it is most definintly not PU coated..... It was from walmart for 1.50. Ive felt coated ripstop. This stuff is most likely rip stop polyester. It was really light and great for waterproofing. I didnt have it mixed as well as i should have... Thus the chunks that didnt stick.... sad day.......

As I understand it, sylnylon is a weave of silicone impregnated thread. I don't know if that impregnation occurs before or after weaving.

Do you use a squeegee to force it in, or just thin it down to a light liquid and let it soak in?

    Thanks for the reference Ron.

I got through the first 60 posts (another Mega-thread) and it sounds finicky.
(I'll wait until I need a boost of my blood VOC's before trying it)

    Have you had some success?

It is indeed a mega thread. But If I remember correctly by the time I finished reading it (can't remember where that was) the process had been peer reviewed and refined to the point where it was reasonably easy to do.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

The thread goes thru the experimentation everyone was doing, so it's long. I did have success doing it with my first DIY tarp.
