Loopie adjustable sling Vs Whoopie Sling

Having looked at all the uses of the Whoopie and UCR I thought I'd look at lots of othe uses for constriction and I came across the Loopie sling on an arborists forum. Similar in concept to the Whoopie, although slightly different construction, more like a loop made using an inline UCR(Loopie Pic). The use of these slings by tree specialists is slighty different to how they are used in hammocking, but I can see uses for both (Loopie use & Whoopie use pics).

I have been studying the idea and knocked up a mini version in some simple nylon braid of a possible adjustable ridgeline for my single line suspension here is the thought (Loopie adjustable ridgeline pic).

Before I make this up for real, does anybody have any thoughts as to holding power and possible accidental slippage.

it looks promising.i do not quite get it i admit.is it like a ucr but all in one piece.were the end of the ucr slack would be goes instead up thru the bury to become/end as the fixed loop.?
i think if guys use it to tie themselfs to trees(????do they)it should hold a hammock
here is a link to a suspention i did using 1 ucr for the entire hammock.it may be similar to this technique.

Interesting idea...don't see where it's really any more useful than a whoopie sling, though. Can you explain what you see as the differences in use?

It looks to have the disadvantages of both the UCR and the whoopie:

    1. UCR disadvantages shared by the loopie
      1. unloaded end of adjustable bury - needs longer bury to hold and supplemental device to provide some load to prevent slipping - you will notice that in the applications pictured, the loopie is wrapped around a tree. In my experience with a UCR tree hugger, the pressure of the bury against the tree provides enough load on the bury that it prevents the bury from slipping as it would in a suspension. In my experience, the pressure also makes it difficult to adjust.
      2. 2 fixed eyes which require more total bury than the whoopie, hence greater minimum distance.
    2. whoopie disadvantage shared by the loopie
      1. looks like you need more rope than for UCR

    Advantages???

The idea would be to connect one fixed eye to tree hugger, have the adjustable loopie ridgeline part , attach other fixed eye to other tree hugger, connect hammock to adjustable rings or carabiners on ridgeline (see my SLS set up here http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...?t=4719&page=5).

So by starting at the end opposite the adjuster, rig the suspension line, adjust via loopie, the length of the suspension, rig adjustable end, adjust sag via carabiners or rings, clip in hammock, done.

Could even go one step further and use mini - UCR instead of rings to adjust sag on suspension?? eliminating all hardware and knots, everything being spliced or a compression system?

Does that make it any clearer?

I had this idea when I first starting making slings...

The disadvantage is the constrictor is much like that of the UCR.... Only 1 end gets loaded. The potential for slip is there.. but can be overcome with longer buries.

EDIT: Not really my idea... Just threw it out as an option.

    Talking

As an Arborist that uses Whoopies and Loopies and also does alot of hammocking, I think I can add to this.

The loopie and whoopies are used in a rigging system for removing limbs and heavy sections of trees. Our whoopies and loopies are much larger 3/4" lines. Our whoopies are used to attach a lowering device at the base of the tree. The loopie is used to set a pulley high in the tree as an lowering point. Our whoopies are large with alot of adjustment to go around small and large trees. Our loopies are smaller with less adjustment because they go around limbs. The whoopie uses less rope to give us the easy quick adjustment we need. The loopie takes more rope per ft of adjustment and we need less adjustment. We always attach hardware to our whoopies and loopies.

In a hammock set up the loopie whould be a good choice in a rig other than it uses more rope to get the same adjustment compared to the whoopie. The whoopie would also be a good choice in a rig other than it uses more rope to get the same adjustment compared to the UCR. In all adjustments the length of the bury is VERY important. When in doubt increase the bury.

    Thanks opie

I have been a fan of your work for some time. As I make my own at work I doubt I will not be placing an order, but I like your work.

    Wow... Thank you.

I liked the loopie sling when I stumbled upoun it... Seemed like a neat idea... Getting it to hold took quite a bit of a bury and at that point didnt have any advantages over a whoopie sling, IMO, for hammock hanging.
