    New to Hangin

I looked through my posts and didn't see any into that I posted? Might-of missed something? Anywho...so here goes....

I have always enjoyed being outside--except when air is over-humid and feels like "air you could wear" which is the case along the gulf coast for sure...soon to be air one can burn thanks to the accident in the gulf.

So, since I am an avid youtube watcher, I first ran into Tinny and his stoves. I was very impressed! I watched almost all of his videos and then heard him mention "Shug." Well, I watched Shug's videos next--all of them about 4-10 times over and have had to start taking medicines since.

Shug, you CRACK ME UP!!!! He had an awful lot of info to digest and a new topic--hammocks and unicycles. It surprised me just how much information I could use to simply (if I could use that term?) hang and sleep in a hammock.

I was never a hammocker in the past. I spent about 13 years combined overseas (Japan, Italy, Germany.....) riding my beemer motorcycle through the Alps, passes, near great vistas and blue lakes in Switzerland, Austria and slept in a tent during those times--my back still hurts.

Getting out and planning and actually going on many vacations has been wonderful. I haven't done much since hurricane Katrina, where I lost my house and all but wanted to go, but couldn't for a while.

Now, I have a steady job and have started getting things together for the HF hang in October in the Linville Gorge! I am very excited to have that chance to meet you guys and get some expert advice on how-to's and what-nots.

So, as an introduction, some of you have already accepted me as a friend and that is wonderful and others of you I have yet to meet to do the same (in person or video).

I am stoked, buying some gear, weeding out old stuff, weighing and getting ready to launch again!

Thanks to Tinny and Shug, I have a plan, am sticking to it and my wallet is crying, yelling, but I will be there Lord willing in October.

    Linville Gorge, Here I come!!!

Welcome to the board and have fun buying new gear!

I am actually in Germany right now, but I've only been to the Alps once--sounds like you've been all over. Sounds like fun!

Welcome to the forums. After camping in a tent for soooooooo long, I just know you are gonna get a lot of pleasure out of hammock camping. Esp. with the heat in your area. Hammocks are way cooler any way you look at them. (Pun intended!)

And thanks for becoming a donating member so soon, esp. in your circumstances. Breaks my heart to hear of your loss and now the gulf. That is really good of you.

Hope to catch ya in the Fall.Have backpacked all my life, alot of it with Shug.He steered me into Hammock camping about 18 months ago.I've carried hammocks on alot of trips through the years to hang out during the day,the concept of "hanging" all night has just caught on with me and it is a comfortable and light weight way to go.You'll meet a great group of folks, see alot of different gear, tweak something every time you hang. You still got to tote some old stuff!

Yeah .... Hickery always had a small mesh hammock and as he is apt to do .... sit and blank-out taking in the piney woods.
I sent him a hammock in a desire to re-vitalize his backpacking the same way the hammock did mine. It took.
Glad you enjoyed the videos ...... I am just trying to fill time most of the time.
